Week 16: Great Falls, VA "African Lion Fighting Dog!"

Hey all!!!!!!!!

I hope you're week was as amazing as you are!

It was a pretty great week! Some great things are happening!

Marco and Nevin didn't show up the church this week, but they should be next week! Fingers crossed!!! Nevin (Pronounced Neh-Veen like prince Naveen on Princess and the Frog) is doing good! We reached out to her daughter who was baptized a year ago in Maryland and asked if she had talked to Nevin about anything. They've talked a little, but her daughter has been really helpful and supportive! We have to take things kinda slow with her, but she is very inquisitive and truly wants to learn! She's getting there!!! We're super hopeful!

So crazy story involving the title!!!!!

We get the records from the MSA ward for a less active guy named Mitch. We call him to reach out and say Hi. He tells us he has a neighbor he wants us to meet that has met missionaries before. We're like, "Heck ya!!!!" So we walk to his apartment building that is just behind ours and we get a text from him. He asks if we have his new address. We say no and he sends it to us. We look it up and........It's right outside our ward boundaries into the Tysons ward (the ZL's area). It's too far to walk, so Mitch comes and picks us up. We wait at his old building and he rolls up in his huge Ram 2500 turbo, mega cab, diesel pickup truck with like skull stickers and stuff on it! He hops out and is a kinda short chubby guy with a huge red beard! So we hop in and he takes us to his new place. We meet his friend named Mostafa. He's from Egypt. (3rd person from Egypt we've taught!) He's a super great guy! Mitch and him both served in the military. Mostafa was an Arabic interpreter. They bonded because they both have PTSD and they've got tons in common! So we have pizza and an great conversation with him and we invite him to church on Sunday. Before we leave, Mitch asks if we want to meet his dogs, Rocco and Sig. We're like, sure! He warns us that they're pretty big. One is 70 pounds...not too big... and the other is 140 pounds!!! So they come in and the black lab/corgie mix comes bolting in. Then the huge 140 pounds African Mastiff comes in! He's huge!!! They were pretty awesome! Super sweet dogs! He tells us the story of the African Mastiff and how 140 pounds is small for the breed. They're breed for herding animals and scaring off Lions!!! He said the normal size is like 160-220 pounds!!!! He showed us some pictures of them and they're massive!!! Pretty sweet! He was a really nice dog! he laid his head in my lap and stuff. It was great!

The sad part of the story is that we have to pass Mostafa to the ZL's...

Anyway, it's been a good week! Lots of good stuff coming up in Great Falls!!

Love and all! Keep praying and reading that Book of Mormon!!! It truly is the word of God! It really was translated by Joseph Smith! The more I share my testimony of that, the more I know it to be true!

Have a great week!

Love, Elder Duke
